Conquering Complacency

So a word that has plagued my life the past few weeks is Complacency.
By dictionary definition meaning: a feeling of quite pleasure or security; self-satisfaction
Now after reading that definition you may wonder, why is a feeling of self satisfaction being looked as a negative thing? For me I don’t want to feel comfortable or satisfied any moment in this life.
As a 20-something this is a point in our lives where we need to make leaps and bounds towards what we are after; our short term objectives to meet out long term goals. Now I, for one, have one overarching goal of  experiencing this life we live with abundance. To be able to prioritize enjoying the finer things in this world around the routines of our daily lives.
Now since we are all familiar with life as a “rollercoaster,” with its ups and downs, this post is the result of recently coming off of a down and to talk about why we need to recognize when we we are getting complacent.
These past three weeks have been an uphill battle for me as I shook off a lot of unwanted anxiety that threw me off my normally productive routine. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT allow yourself to get comfortable with where you are in your life if you are not doing anything to better yourself.
To start bettering yourself I want you to ask yourself: “What have I done to make a better life for myself, my future, my family or the people I care about.?" Also, when was the last time you read a book? When was the last time you looked to improve a skill that you possess? What are you currently doing to master a craft or skill-set that you use daily? What actions steps are you taking to reach your long term goals?
If you get complacent you basically put all your objectives on hold, which will delay you from reaching your long term goals at a faster rate. The time spent taking a break from moving in the direction of accomplishing your goals do not equal the time you will need to put in to make up for your setback. In my case the 3 weeks I spent being complacent set me back almost 2 months for a goal I was looking to achieve and that is because I was satisfied with how I was spending my time during those weeks. It took a hard recognition of my minor downfall to realize that I needed to make a change to get back on track.
The hardest part about fighting complacency is the fact that it is easy. Everyone looks for the easy way out, the path of least resistance, which will snowball into laziness and lack of internal motivation to put in the work to get what you want. People can sleep in until 8am get to their job for their 9-5 to come home and sit on the couch all evening, go to sleep, and do it all over again. If you’re not putting in the extra work around your normal schedule to get up early, take care of yourself, work your routine, and put in the extra work before you decide to call it a day.. You may find that you are living  a boring and nonproductive life.

How are you going to conquer your complacency?
